アンボセリでの悲劇

　アンボセリ国立公園は黄色の大きなゲートがあって管理人が不法侵入出来ないように見張っている。が、その気になれば鉄格子を超えていくらでも立ち入ることができそうだ。と、忘れていたが、最初に見たアフリカならではの動物ダチョウに続き、次に見た動物はシマウマだった。いずれも国道沿いに平然と立っている。その次に象を見た。k氏は初め小屋かと間違える程大きい。

　　国立公園に入るとドライバーが「You'll be able to see natural Africa. Let's　across the Amboseli !」みたいな事を言った。今なら意味分かるが当時は最後の「アクロス　ザ　アンボセリ」しか聞き取れなかった。アンボセリは象とハイエナ、インパラがとにかく目に付いた初めて見る動物には感動するが、３度も見ると、もういいや状態になる。しかし、これが本物のサファリなのだ、このアンボセリの敷地面積はどれくらいあるのだろう？後で分かったが前述した鉄格子を超えたところでサバンナに立ち尽くすしかないのだ、なぜなら、アンボセリに入ってから宿泊所アンボセリロッジまでクルマで１時間以上かかるのだから。まだ、日の高いうちにロッジに着いた。リーダー舟○氏が昨日泊まったファイブスターのヒルトンが今回の旅で最も安いホテルというのが少し分かってきた。アンボセリロッジはいかにもアフリカらしい石造りの門があり、プール、バー、宿泊施設は２部屋で一棟であるきちんとしたベッドに洗面所、水洗のトイレがある。その他に民族資料館やレストラン・カフェテラスもある一大リゾート地のようだ。
　　

　ここで、夕食まで時間が余るためサファリに再び出かけた。ハイエナらしきものがウロウロしている中、しばらく走ると、ドライバーがクルマを止めた何だと思ったらライオンがいるという！どこに！？英語でゆっくり説明してくれているのだが、分からないが...しつこく聞いていると「あー尻尾がこちら向きに垂れている！」と気が付いた。向こう向きだけど確かにライオン！と思わず声を上げた。後から聞いた話でこのライオンは木の上にいたが、木に登るライオンはこの一帯にしかおらず、しかも雄のみらしい。しかし、クルマで走りながらあんな分かりにくいものを瞬時に捉えるこのドライバーの目はどうなってるんだ？

　帰り道に幾つか白骨化した動物の死骸を見てホテルに戻った。もうすぐ夕食の時間だ、俺達のグループの担当スタッフは何と日本語が話せる！この国の人は母国語がスワヒリ語で、英語は誰でも話せる、日本語を覚えたいというのはやはり日本人客が多いためらしい。どんな忙しい時でも一時間は勉強していると言っていた。一時間の勉強というと、「なんだ、それだけ？」と思いがちだが、仕事をしながら一日も欠かさず勉強することは自分と照らし合わせてみると並の意志では不可能だと思う。
　本当はこのロッジの最大の魅力はサバンナ越しに見えるキリマンジャロだが、その日は見れなかった。まあ、当然あとから嫌と言うほど見れるけど。
　食事の時間が近くなったときから俺の体調に変化が起きた。下痢だ、しかもかなりひどい。３０分おきにトイレにいく状況だ、夕食なんていいや、と思ったが、一人部屋に居るのも寂しいもので、ビュッフェに行った。まあ、取り放題なので、少し何か食べておこうと思った。リーダーがパパイヤ、マンゴーは整腸作用があるから食べるといいと言ってくれたのでそれのみを食べた。部屋に戻りベッドで横になっていてもどうも改善しない。ここは薬に頼るか...と抗生物質を服用した、それでも良くなるどころか、余計酷くなってきた。その夕べにマサイダンスショーがあって皆それを観にいったが俺はそんなインターバルは無かった。抗生物質を追加服用したが改善する傾向は一向にない。その状態で一晩過ぎた。同室のk氏もあまりに俺の状況が酷いので心配してくれた。これから先のロッジはベッドの上の天井に蚊帳が用意されている。当然マラリア防止のためだが,しかしこの夜は蚊帳はその機能を俺には発揮しなかった。一夜明けて、皆早朝サファリに出発した。が、俺はパス！もし参加してたらクルマの外に降りて用を足している間にハイエナの餌食になってしまっただろう。
　　皆が帰ってきた、その日俺は外に出て初めてサバンナ越しにキリマンジャロの姿を見た。ちゃんと雪もある。なんて大きく高い山なんだろう...感動の反面あんな高い山を登るのか...と不安になってきた。ALL トッピングオムレツのS川氏が「大丈夫？」と訊ねてくれたので「これで、登頂できると確信しましたよ」と答えた。

　　その年は「バルセロナ五輪」があり柔道の古賀稔彦選手が準々決勝で手首を傷めたとき「これで、金メダルを獲れると確信しました」と言ったのを真似ただけの強がりであった。さあ、もうじきアンボセリを出発し国境を越えケニアからタンザニアに向う時が来る。俺はどうなることやら...

In addition, a racial museum and restaurant cafe-terrace seem to be a certain big resorts, too. 　　I say that there is a lion if I think that it is anything which a driver kept a car as! Where! ? I explain it in English slowly, but do not understand it... When ask you persistently; "a あー tail hangs down to this place"! I noticed with ". Though it is looking away, it is surely a lion! 　I watched a corpse of the animal which became some bleached bones in a way back and came back to a hotel. だ, the charge staff of a group of us can speak what and Japanese soon in time of supper! The reason why a person of this country wants to learn the Japanese that a native language is Swahili, and anyone can speak English seem to be that after all there are many Japanese visitors. I was said to make any kind of study for one hour when I was busy. When say study of one hour; "only as for なんだ, it?" But I pass it! While I went down outside a car if I participated and added business, I will have become a prey of a hyena. 　　I watched a figure of Kilimanjaro over savanna on the day when everybody returned only after I went out. There is snow properly, too. It will be a mountain high how greatly... Do you climb the high mountain which is an other side filling of an impression?... I became と uneasiness.
